High-velocity, and why a Unico-certified installer matters in an old house
High-velocity mini-duct systems move air through small, flexible tubing instead of the sheet metal a conventional system needs, which is the difference between fitting cooling into an old house and rebuilding parts of it to make room for ductwork. As a Unico-certified installer, we will provide you with quality cooling equipment, which means the manufacturer has cleared us to put their equipment into an occupied house and have it actually work the way it is supposed to.
The small tubing threads through joist bays and wall cavities that a conventional duct run cannot use, so a house that looks like a poor candidate for central air on paper is often a straightforward high-velocity job in practice.

Mini split ductless where no duct will ever fit
Some rooms, additions or converted spaces will never take ductwork of any size, whether that is a finished attic, a garage conversion or an addition built without cooling in mind at all. Ductless mini splits solve that by putting the equipment on the wall instead of behind it, one indoor head per zone, run off an outdoor condenser.
They also let you cool one room without running the whole system, which matters in a house where only part of it gets used hard enough to justify the cost of conditioning the rest.

Conventional duct systems and high-efficiency units
Where a house already has ductwork, or is being built with room for it, a conventional duct system paired with a high-efficiency cooling unit is usually the straightforward answer. Heat pumps fall into this category too, covering both sides of the year off one outdoor unit rather than heating and cooling being handled as two separate systems.
We service equipment we did not install just as readily as our own work. A conventional system is a conventional system regardless of whose name is on the outdoor unit.
Air cleaners, humidification and the thermostat that runs it
The equipment that actually moves cold air is only half of comfort. Air cleaners and humidification handle what is in the air itself, and a programmable thermostat is what ties the whole system, heating and cooling both, into something that runs on a schedule instead of a switch someone has to remember to flip.
These get added onto whatever cooling system is already in place, so they are worth asking about at the same time as the main equipment rather than as an afterthought once the install is finished.
